Training with us

Training with Bearwood Chapel

Bearwood Chapel may be a small church but we still want to play our part in supporting the wider church in the UK and wider afield. We do this partly through supporting mission partners financially and through prayer.  Additionally, in partnership with other organisations including Operation Mobilisation and the Midlands Gospel Partnership, we offer opportunities for people to gain training and practical experience working alongside the Church either in a pastoral or missions capacity.

Opportunities include:

Short term internships

From time to time we have opportunities for people to come and spend a few weeks with the Church.  During this time, you will be able to shadow some of the church activities, meet with different leaders and learn more about leadership with a church.  These internships tend to be helpful for those considering whether or not to pursue longer term Christian work and Bible college students seeking vacation placements.

Ministry Trainees

We sometimes have openings for people to come and learn alongside the Chapel for 1-2 years.  During that time they gain practical experience in leadership, teaching, pastoral care and outreach.  Ministry Trainees are also enrolled on a local course to help equip them to handle God’s Word better as well as having access to the various courses and workshops run by the Chapel.  For further details, please read this document.

Currently all training places are self-funded which means that you would need to raise your own support funds.  We are sometimes available to arrange board and lodgings with a church family for trainees.

Joining an Operation Mobilisation Team working with the Chapel

Currently we have English Language with Community Outreach (ELCO) teams working with the church throughout the year.  Occasionally we also have individual placements through OM.  In the past we have also had GA (Global Action Teams) who live in the community whilst learning about mission through monthly seminar weeks and practical experience . For more information about these programmes, please visit the OM-Life-hope website at http://www.lifehope.om.org/index.php/training/programme  (please note that OM cannot guarantee in advanced that you will be placed with the Chapel but you will have the opportunity to work with one of a number of fantastic, Gospel hearted churches).

Next Steps

If you think that any of the above opportunities would be relevant to you then here’s what to do next.

  1. Have a chat with your church leaders about whether this is the right thing for you to do.They may want to help you identify other opportunities to train within your own church or on an alternative scheme.

  2. If you are interested in one of the OM programmes then contact them direct.Remember, we cannot guarantee that you will be placed with us.
