Bob's Bio

Hi, my name is Bob Sharples and I am the Elder at Bearwood Chapel who is responsible for children and youth work. 

I have been a Christian since February 1978 and was baptised by believers' baptism in May 1978.  I come from Perth in Scotland and I am married to Dagmar who is also the church treasurer and we have 2 teenage children, Catriona and Lars.  We live in Bearwood and are 7 minutes’ walk from the Chapel. 

Although I am a Chartered Architect and Chartered Town Planner, I have been working with children and youth for over 35 years.  I am qualified officer in the Boys Brigade Junior and Company sections.  I have done a number of youth training schemes, including some Duke of Edinburgh's instructor's schemes, and completed the Bishop's Certificate in Youth Work in 2008.

At Bearwood Chapel we have a number of weekly events for various age groups under 18:

Sunday morning:     Sunday Clubs;  0 - 3yr olds

                                                      3 - 10yr olds

                                                     11- 16yr olds

Sunday evening: 21CD 11 - 18yr olds

Tuesday:      Toddlers       0 - 3yr olds

Morning        10:00 – 11:30

Afternoon      12:30 – 2:30

Wednesday: After School Club 4 - 10yr olds

Friday:          Friday Club 1; 4 - 7yr olds

                    Friday Club 2; 8 - 10yr olds

                    Friday Club 3; 11 - 18yr olds

Everyone over 18 helping at the children and youth activities has an up to date Enhanced CRB check.  Training is provided to helpers including the under 18s.  

At no time is anyone under 18 left in charge with young children

We encourage our teens to be actively involved in working with the younger clubs, again we provide training and support for them. 

When we run holiday clubs, we encourage our younger leaders to play an active role in praying, teaching and leading small groups as well as many of the activities as possible.  We run sessions of leading bible studies, praying and creating activities with them prior to the holiday club so they are equipped, to play the active role they want.
